Car Thief Used Leading Website to Aid in Theft

A car thief used the leading new and used car sales website, Auto Trader to target victims in a carefully planned robbery. Robert Boulter, aged 23 drove away with 8 cars over a 5 month period posing as an interested buyer it was revealed.

Amongst the cars in question were an Audi TT, a Honda Civic, and a VW Golf. Today, Boulter pleaded guilty to 37 counts of car theft and other related offences.

After calling the victim, posing as a legitimate potential buyer, he would then proceed to visit their home or garage and ask to be shown the cars. Biding his time, or tricking the victim into providing a window of opportunity he would then drive of with the car, leaving the victim stunned.

One occasion left a garage owner even more baffled as he drove into a wall shortly after stealing the keys from behind the dealer’s desk before making his escape with the vehicle. Typically Boutler, 23 used this method to steal 8 cars between May and September this year.

Boutler also admitted to several charges of driving without car insurance and also while disqualified.

The case was deferred in court today, while more evidence and reports were gathered as to the total cost of the crimes Boutler commited.
