A strategy to help more electric and carbon vehicles on the road has been announced by the government, in the news that may be useful for drivers considering this type of transport.

The motorists will be helped by a subsidy of between £2,000 and £5,000 that can be put towards the cost of plug-in hybrids and electric cars, which are already scheduled to be available from the year 2011.

Some cheaper car insurance policies provide discounts or various other benefits for the vehicles with lower carbon emissions, so this could be encouraging for all those who want it a bit greener.

Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon, who introduced the measures with business secretary Peter Mendelson said that there is an immense potential for the reduction of carbon output.

He also explained that “The scale of incentives we’re announcing today will mean that an electric car is a real option for motorists as well as helping to make UK the world leader in carbon transport”.
